In the pub on Wednesday 18th Nov. Not sure what to expect but enjoyed all 3 events, ‘All Right’ being the best. Eric, the pub landlord is friendly but authoritive, you may need your ID.
Interesting establishment.
Excellent pub set-up, very ‘local’…warming and cosy for the winter…
Welcoming landlord – he pulls a great pint – and fun pub quiz (with extra love story…), last week…
Looking forward to some rum and vodka this week and more weekly trips to my new favourite local…
Please bring this back at least yearly!
Thought pub was fantastic. Went on 18th Nov and thought the If I Could Show You play outshone the rest. Whilst everyone was great, Trevor Macfarlane really did turned in a mature and observed performance with a War of Warcraft loving geek and Josh Goulding held his own as the Myth lover. An excellent night at an unusual event. Congrats to the Studio.
It’s all sold out and has been for days. Your site doesn’t say so. It even encourages those who couldn’t get tix last week to try harder! When? Are you putting on another month of Pub in 2012? I quote:
And to those of you who couldn’t get in, make sure you don’t miss out again! Gotta tell you folks, you aint seen nothin’ yet…
Secondly, is it so against the spirit of Pub to have an even vaguely comprehensive list of what’s on? I am told “Tale Told By An Idiot” are putting something on, but I can’t see it anywhere. If there is something different on every night, it’’s hard to tell from your site.
Still great night out even though I couldn’t have more as you sold out…
You’re absolutely right – we’re completely sold out now, only returns are available. That wasn’t the case last Monday when the landlord posted his welcome, but PUB has been incredibly popular, and we’ve been a little taken aback by its success! Re – What’s On – we posted info on the Pub Noticeboard a while ago about what’s on. Told By an Idiot aren’t coming as such, but Jiggery Pokery’ – the Charles Hawtrey tribute is performed and directed by members of the company – it’s on this week as stated on the board. However – we did want people to just come along and be surprised by what happened – and luckily, ticket sales seem to prove that it hasn’t put anyone off! Gad you liked it and we all hope it’ll be back again.
Saw If I could Show you on Wed Night – theatre not my thing at all but thought it was really good. Thought the twitching/world of warcraft boy was an amazing actor and loved the brass plates on the wall! It looks like my local…
Loved the idea, thought the acting was great especially Trevor who played world or warcraft character and thought the dancing in the first piece was brilliant fun.
Visited the pub on Wednesday 18th – had a great night. Enjoyed all three plays.
“If I Could Show You” was definitely the best, original and thought provoking. Superb acting from everyone – well done! The whole idea of the pub was fantastic. Really hope you’ll be doing it again!
Came on Thursday to PUB and thought it was brilliant. The piece with the couple on the blind date was funny and true – you could see everyone in the audience relating to it – and then RUM & VODKA was one of the best hours of theatre I’ve ever seen. The actor was such an amazing storyteller that the time just whizzed by. PUB’s such a fantastic idea, I want to come back, so please put it on again as it’s all sold out now!
didn’t know quite what to expect, but we thought the whole evening was excellent, the ambience and the bonhomie of the landlord set the scene nicely before the start of love shift…this was highly original entertaining well sung and acted with an interesting sinister vein in steve’s character…if we came again we would probably have practised pool and darts beforehand, and we would hope the bar had lea and perrins for the tomato juice!!! might also come by public transport …jp quite a tour de force, but a little over indulgent!!!
Managed to get in again by time-honoured tradition of asking those in queue to sell me spare. Jiggery Pokery amazing tour de force, and Love ‘Shift even better – really used the pub theme in the whole space, and I felt smug that I enjoyed opera for the first time (okay, accessible opera). The three actors sparkled with the script/music (er..libretto?). No time for darts, though.
What a great evening. Great performances and the Blackpool poem was just a perfect start. The Landlord was perfect and made everyone feel familiar and like they were in their local and when the Charles Dawtry one woman show started it was just fantastic. I wont ever be eating ‘bunny sausages’!
Saw ‘It’s Nice To Get Out’ and ‘Jiggery Pokery’ last night and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. What a superb performance from Amanda Lawrence (Jiggery Pokery)…..we were both completely hooked. How she played so many characters so effortlessly is beyond belief. Her characterisation of Charles Hawtrey in particular was stunning and we felt ourselves drawn into his world of despair. When we read the flyer afterwards we were not surprised to see she also works with Kneehigh who we love. Well done!

Visited Pub last night as it was my birthday, bought the tickets weeks ago and v glad I did. Free House was a very moving piece, with a bit of everything in it and extremely well executed. Fragments and moments was startling and thought provoking. The landlord’s monologue on Blackpool is highly entertaining so if you have tickets look forward to it! I was not expecting such dark theatre (although there were some very funny moments) but it certainly entertained me. I would love to have come more than once but was unable to get further tickets. Please do it again!
If you’ve visited my pub then let me know what you think!
Yours
The Landord – Eric Bell
Fantastic! A great idea – and a great night out. Hope it comes back next year!
